"Patience: A Key Component of Success, Wellbeing, and Self-Mastery"

In lesson number 17 in my book, The Art of Self-Mastery I speak about the importance of patience. The art of patience is often overlooked in our fast-paced society, yet it is a crucial component to achieving success, wellbeing, self-development, and self-mastery. It is a virtue that has been extolled by philosophers throughout the ages, for it is the foundation upon which a life of purpose and fulfillment is built.

Patience is the ability to delay gratification and endure adversity with a calm and steady mindset. It is the opposite of impulsivity and reactivity, which can lead to hasty decisions and regret. It is the ability to maintain a sense of equanimity in the face of life's challenges, whether they be large or small. Patience is not just about waiting; it's about how you go about life.

When we are patient, we are able to make well-informed decisions, rather than being swayed by our emotions. We are able to take the necessary time, to observe, to think things through and consider all of the options available to us. We are able to approach problems with a clear head and a sense of perspective, rather than becoming overwhelmed and panicked.

Patience is also essential for success. It allows us to persevere in the face of obstacles and setbacks, to keep working towards our goals even when we feel any insecurity, doubts, or indecision. It enables us to learn from our mistakes, rather than being discouraged by them. Patience is a virtue that is needed to stay focused and motivated on the long term goals, understanding the short term is just a small step toward achieving something big.

In terms of wellbeing, patience helps us avoid unnecessary stress and anxiety. It allows us to be in the present moment, rather than worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. It helps us to accept things that we cannot change, and to focus on things that we can change.

Patience is also crucial for our self-development journey and achieving self-mastery. It enables us to take the time to reflect on our thoughts, feelings, and actions, to be mindful of what is holding us back and what is propelling us forward. It allows us to be patient with ourselves as we work to improve ourselves, recognizing that change takes time.

Patience is a vital virtue that should not be overlooked in our quest for success, wellbeing, self-development, and self-mastery. It allows us to be more thoughtful, more strategic, and more resilient. It helps us to maintain a sense of perspective and to approach problems with a calm and steady mindset. It enables us to persevere in the face of obstacles and setbacks, and to stay focused on our goals. Cultivate patience and be persistent, for it is the foundation of a truly fulfilling life.

Best,

Bradley
